What was supposed to be 2 weeks off work in Seoul with some friends has quickly become a series of complex errands for delivery driver Matt Kwan. Kwan reportedly worked as much overtime as he was allowed and even began doing InstaCart in his spare time to afford this experience; however, instead of trying street food and seeing the sights–he is now responsible for getting cheap Balenciaga for all his aunties, commissioning a hanbok for his younger sister, smuggling ginseng liqueur for his uncle and more.
“Yeah, it’s so nice that he’s going!” said Louise Kwan, Matt’s older sister. “I keep seeing these cool skincare items from a specialty shop on TikTok and I’m gonna see if he’ll get them for me so I don’t have to pay extra for shipping!”
These errands are not only coming at the cost of money, but time and experience too. “He told us he’s gotta split off from us for two days of the trip to head to Busan for some special snail masks or something.” said one of his travel companions. “He said he’d have to get a separate hotel just for that trip. That’s why I’m gonna tell my family I went after I go.”
When asked if he is still excited for his trip, Matt gave a halfhearted shrug, explaining, “Making sure I have extra room in my suitcase is gonna be a pain… How are you gonna ask me to bring back a bottle of liquid over 3.4oz?!”
Kwan is however excited to return to work because, as he claims, “At least I make tips while working.”
