Recent developments have indicated that your parents want you to do whatever makes you happy, as long as you spend a majority of your life pursuing a career that requires a lengthy and difficult education.

“Yeah, just go do what makes you proud. We came to this country and had to work hard and painful jobs so you could have a chance to succeed and find happiness in your work. All we’re saying is we’d love it if you could go thousands of dollars into debt and become highly specialized in a very specific field that requires a graduate degree before you go and spend the rest of your life working. It’s so simple,” said your father. “If after all of that, you decide being the host of a podcast with 23 monthly listeners is more fulfilling than being a pediatrician, I guess that’s fine. Good luck paying your student loans though,” said your dad, smugly.

Your mom also chimed with a few words that were meant to be encouraging.

“Oh my beautiful baby boy, you should pursue your passions and follow your dreams. But in case none of that works out, you should also become a doctor. That’s always a good backup plan. Or you could do both! Work 60 hours a week doing doctor stuff and then just another 40 hours a week crafting handmade jewelry using twine and thumbtacks or whatever it is you like doing,” said your mother.

At the end of the conversation, your parents also wish you would talk to them more and spend less time at school and work.
