CHINATOWN, WORLDWIDE – Embracing an age-old adage that has been passed down over several generations, Asian mothers worldwide unanimously confirmed that drinking hot water was an effective solution to curing illnesses, leading a stress-free life and maintaining a good financial position. Asserting that it is not just a placebo, most claimed that drinking water remained the top remedy for the common flu, edging out vaccines and other well-researched medical treatments in a poll.

Although the mundane healthcare tip has drawn criticism from most medical professionals worldwide, 49-year old Madeline Lee asserts that it has “kept her family alive for years”, and is especially useful when “ah boy is too heaty.” “You can always change it up and drink hot tea, hot water based soups, or hot water but drunk slowly,” added Lee, after throwing a bunch of Panadol pills into the dustbin. “It’s much better than these silly pills.”

With the proverb growing out of popularity, proponents of the “drink more hot water” adage are seeing more pushback, as sons and daughters are starting to question the efficacy of this treatment.

“Last year my brother had tuberculosis,” said 24-year-old Zhang from Hanoi. “My mother kept saying all he needed to do was drink more hot water and it would be okay. He died last year.”

However, the circle of “drink more hot water” proponents do not seem to be dwindling. In fact, even as criticisms mount, the simple but snide reminder circulates through Whatsapp groups and between Asian mothers, preaching the gospel of hot water consumption to all who read its message. With the bastions of water drinking gatekeeping the sacred tradition, it looks like there is no stopping this fabled remedy from reaching most Asian households today.

White households declined to comment on the treatment, saying that they will wager their chances with essential oils and horoscopes first rather than drink water.
