We are in constant danger… half of the time.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Wasian community, nearly two months after the end of AAPIH month, rebuffs claims they are “not oppressed” because in fact “it gets kind of annoying when people are constantly telling you you’re very, very pretty.”
Earlier this month, spokesperson for the community Kristen Choi-Thomas took a stand in a press conference to no one who cared. Choi-Thomas says she “wanted to make clear” the struggle that the white and Asian mixed race community faces in the United States.
“We have way more to offer than just our looks,” Choi-Thomas says, flipping her sleek, long, dirty blonde hair with her olive-skin toned hand. “And yes, some Asians have blue-green eyes! That’s sooo important for the community to remember,” Choi-Thomas says, possibly talking about herself.
Choi-Thomas elaborated, “It’s just so disappointing to see roles in this day and age constantly taken away from Wasians. Like in ‘To All the Boys I Loved Before,’” referencing the popular Netflix original program, starring Korean-American actress Lana Condor, who plays a character written as mixed-race in the original book series. “We’re tired of being silenced and overlooked.”
The announcement was met with skepticism from other Asian-American community leaders.
Maria Joy Jusi, local Filipino-American activist, said “I don’t know that that’s happening, in terms of the, um, silencing. Kristen talks about being Wasian, like, literally all the time. Actually all the time. She has four different flags in her Instagram bio.”
Reflecting on the recent wave of violence against Asian-Americans, Choi-Thomas said, “We see our elders facing violence everyday in our current political climate, but other people sometimes forget that this could totally happen to my family too. Like to my great-aunt, on my mom’s side, maybe. But also, it’s really annoying to be asked where you’re from all the time. All the time, like you wouldn’t get it.
A white passerby, Steven Cole, shared his sentiments.
“This really demonstrates the kind of SJW, oppression Olympics mindset that tears people apart. We’re all under one sun, one planet. Mixed race people can bring the Earth together. I watched Kristen’s Tedx Talk and honestly she is the perfect amount of white. I’d vote for her. Not for anything particular. Just in general.”
