It’s Good to Check in on Your Asian Friends but Has Anyone Checked in on BTS?

By the way, BigHit Entertainment is an Asian-owned business.

As a white woman ARMY, I consider myself an ally. I love and support my Asian counterparts through thick and thin, good and bad health, and until death do us part. With this in mind, the recent rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans has made me really worried for Asians, especially our one true group of gods, BTS.

My allyship takes place mostly on Twitter where I told my white friends to “check in on their Asian friends” in light of the recent hate crimes in America. I, for example, texted my one friend Esther Lee to see how she was doing. I am still waiting for her response, but it’s these small forms of activism that change the world. I hope she responds soon, it’s too bad my last text to her was about how she was getting to Prom in 2016.

After I checked in on Esther, my mind started to worry. What about those 7 skinny kings across the Pacific pond? I fear for their safety every waking second of my life now. I mean they just lost at the Grammys, I just realized that they’re all Asian, and Jimin weighs like 100 pounds. Sure, it’s easy to check in on your Asian friend but what about the Asian millionaires that come to America occasionally? I find it shameful that no one is talking about this and I call on all white ARMYs to be better allies and check in on BTS. I also think we should really start donating to Big Hit since it’s an Asian owned business.
