Reality show fans are rejoicing after 28-year-old David Truong and 26-year-old Tiffany Sun bonded over their Caucasian exes on Netflix’s new dating series Love is Colorblind. The lovebirds both hailed from the white half of San Francisco and became an instant hit on the show as the only people of color to be given more than 60 frames of screen time. For the series premiere, Netflix producers quickly asked the pair if they were siblings before setting them up on a blind date.

“At first the date was kinda awkward,” Sun told viewers by turning her head toward the camera mid-dinner, “we had nothing in common except coming from first-generation immigrant families, shared Asian diasporic trauma, our love of cooking spicy traditional dishes with our grandmothers, and our deep-seated values of heritage, culture, and ancestral spirituality. Y’know, surface stuff. But then we both mentioned our exclusively white, blond, Aryan exes, and well the rest is history.”

“Tiffany is never the type of girl I thought I would fall in love with,” Truong repeated after Sun did not hear him the first time, “something is just different about her. I mean she’s the most emotionally available, communicative, honest, and genuine person I’ve ever met but like, her hair wasn’t as light and bouncy as I was used to. And that’s really important in a coloniz— I mean partner.”

What started as a frigid first date quickly blossomed into a deeper romance as the two began relaying stories of how attractive they found the majority of Oscar nominees but not Steven Yeun or Lucy Liu. “Maybe there’s more to love than looks,” the two said in unison as they texted “I miss you, white stuff” to their exes under the table.
