Jordan Peele’s latest feature, Nope, is a horror flick taking place in a remote, rural countryside location. While the movie pulls the viewer into a journey of the supernatural, there is also no question that Steven Yeun displays his gracious dynamic as the Country Man role from not only this movie, but also Golden Globe nominated hit Minari (2021). Except, he seems to have found a replacement for his Korean immigrant family?

Minari is about a Korean immigrant family who embarks on a challenging upward battle to maintain a lucrative farm in Arkansas. Yeun plays the complicated protagonist father who struggles to be an effective parent but also a successful farmer. However, it seems that Yeun then takes the same character and sells his farm, children, and Korean wife for a white lady, three supposedly wasian and mischievous boys, and a western-themed amusement park.

While an impartial analysis of this decision could be made regarding Yeun’s character choices, it is clear that a controversial transaction has been executed. Yeun must have gone online, to somewhere like Craigslist, and listed the farm up for sale, including his Korean immigrant wife, her mother (his mother-in-law), and two children (a son and daughter). While putting the price on human life is unimaginable, Yeun clearly had no moral questioning to do it with 4 lives and a farm.

We can only hope that the new white lady wife knows what gochujang is.
